Milestones. These are the things we sometimes use to measure our children's growth by, or, in my case, our grandchildren's growth by. Both of my grandsons reached two milestones last week, and I wanted to record them before they slip my mind.
First of all, there's Caden, who's four. He always goes to the bathroom by himself, but needed somebody to turn our bathroom light on for him because he wasn't tall enough to reach the switch. All of that changed last week, when he proudly announced he could reach the switch by himself! I knew the boy was growing taller!
Next there's Cade's brother, Chase, who turned one on December 27th. Chase got his first "big boy" haircut last week! Gone is the "baby look", replaced by the new "I'm a big boy now" look. I kept having the urge to rub his head all weekend! There's just something about that first haircut...
These little grandsons of mine are growing like weeds, and I love it! They are constantly growing and changing, and life is anything but dull whenever they are around. I wonder what their next milestone will be...

The Young and The Old...
This is a picture of my grandson, Caden, and my daughter's old dog, Junior. I love the way Caden squatted down to be eye-level with Junior. They shared a moment with each other, then each went their own way...
When I downloaded this photograph, I was struck by what this photograph represents...the young and the old...Cade is "the young" with his entire life ahead of him, while Junior is "the old"-- an old dog in his final months of life(heartworm disease). For some reason, that touched my heart...I thought it was sweet--and so goes the cycle of life...

Boys Will Be Boys...
...MiMi holding Cade while his daddy takes a picture
Cade came to church yesterday morning sporting a brand-new "boo boo". Apparently, he loves to play with his mama's bracelets. While his mama wasn't looking, he decided to help himself to her very large free-standing jewelry box. The next thing his mama knew, Cade had pulled the whole thing over on top of himself! Like I said, "boys will be boys!" Cade, bracelets are for little girls anyway...

If It's Not One Thing, It's Two...
Next Cade fell down while toddling around, and hit his face. He got a small, dark bruise on his little cheek. It's been there for over two weeks, and still hasn't completely gone away.
Then Cade started out the New Year with a cold and an ear infection. Actually I think he had one in December that never completely went away... He just doesn't seem to be able to catch a break lately. It's been a rough month for him. Poor baby!
Cade's mama took him to the doctor when he began running fever, and he got a shot, as well as antibiotics by mouth. The shot was painful, and the antibiotics gave him diarreah plus a terrible diaper rash. His little behind looked awful, and judging from the way he carried on during diaper changes--if felt awful.
Cade finished taking his antibiotics and his little behind got well. Now he has something going on with his "male parts". They're all red and swollen. I don't know what's up with that, but I guess it's back to the doctor again.
The phone rang early this morning...then it rang again...and again. When I finally answered it, I heard a faint voice on the other end of the line. It was Cade's daddy, my oldest son. He sounded like he was dying. It seems that in addition to Cade's problems, the family has been attacked by the stomach virus! It had not been a restful night for anyone at Cade's house. If it's not one thing, it's two...I hope everyone will soon be feeling better!
The winner of the weekend giveaway is Kathryn@Expectant Hearts. Congratulations to her, and thanks to everyone who participated. Have a great week everyone!
