About Boyfriends...

Recently, four-year-old granddaughter, Maddie, mentioned to my daughter that a little boy at school by the name of "David", occasionally pulls her hair.

Madison's mama explained to her that sometimes little boys pull little girl's hair because they "like" them. Madison's response to this bit of information was "Oh, David is my boyfriend!"

Madison's daddy about had a heart attack at that point! He began to scold her for talking about having a boyfriend.

Meanwhile, Maddie's mama calmly asked "What do boyfriends and girlfriends do?" To which Madison promptly responded "Oh they play the guitar, sing, and dance together!"

Oh, the things we can learn from a four-year-old!

Funny Things About Those Grandkids...

It's a funny thing about our grandchildren, if they come to our house, and we are eating a meal, they automatically invite themselves to eat.

In Maddie's case, it doesn't matter if she's just finished a meal at her own house, she has to have some of what we're having. My husband started giving her "samples" when she was just a baby.

Caden will walk into our kitchen, and immediately go to his chair, which sits at the far end of the table. He starts fumbling with the buckles of his booster seat, trying to get in the seat. If we are eating, he is going to join us!

The other evening we were eating supper when Caden and his daddy popped in for a visit. That evening Caden brought his own supper with him. He quickly settled in and began eating at the table with us. Of course, he had to have some of MiMi's peas, in addition to his own meal!

While eating, Caden noticed a large bowl of artificial apples that I have sitting on the kitchen table, and said "Lots of apples!" To which I replied, "Yes, but those apples aren't real." To which Caden replied, "The boogie man not real!" To which I sat stunned and speechless for a moment....thinking-- Where in the heck did that come from?

In the next breath, Caden said something about the boogie man and VeggieTales...I was really confused then!

Caden's mom had to enlighten me. On the show, VeggieTales, there is an episode that talks about God being bigger than the boogie man. Alrighty then, but how in the heck did we go from apples to the "boogie man" to Veggietales? Ah, the mind of a two-year-old is a busy thing...

It's Potty Time...

Where oh where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday that granddaughter, Maddie, was being potty trained! Who can forget what a time my daughter had "training" Maddie? She used every trick in the book! I even joined in by doing the "Potty Dance" every time Maddi was successful. Wow, those were the days... I blinked my eyes, and now it's "Potty Time" for Caden as well!

Last weekend, my daughter-in-law retrieved my potty chair from its place on the dusty shelf. Once again the Winnie the Pooh chair sits in MiMi's bathroom, waiting for a visit from Caden. I'm proud to announce, so far the potty training is going fantastic! He's such a big boy, he'll be saying goodbye to those diapers before we know it--and it's not even spring yet!!!

MiMi's little potty chair...waiting for its next little visior to come along! I don't think anyone's showed Caden the chair's talking, flushing handle yet. Hello, potty, good-bye diapers!

Holy Sheets...

Just when I think I've seen it all--Maddie does it again! Yesterday when I went over to Maddie's for a little visit, she greeted me with the news that "a hole came in mama's blanket!" As I was telling her that we could sew it up, my daughter broke in to tell me the whole story...

Years ago, when my daughter and son-in-law got married, they received several sets of sheets as gifts. Would you believe every set was beige? Well, one of the sets was a very high thread count, and were extremely soft. My daughter loved those sheets so much, that she's used them over and over for nearly ten years! Finally, the inevitable has happened--some holes wore into the sheets where my son-in-law rubs his foot each night.

When changing the sheets yesterday, my daughter discovered the holes. She decided it was finally time to discard the well-worn sheets, and she put them into the trash can.

Upon seeing her mother discarding the sheets, Maddie began to cry and beg her to not to throw the sheet away. Brandy left the room, only to return and find Maddie, with part of the sheet pulled out of the trash can, rubbing it on her little face, while sucking her finger...Brandy's heart melted.

She did what any good mother would do--and removed the sheet from the trash can! Then she called her mother-in-law and asked if she might be able to make Maddie a little blanket out of part of the sheet. (Her mother-in-law makes blankets for gifts.) Wasn't that sweet? Who would have thought that a sheet could mean so much to a four-year-old! It just goes to show--you never know what is special to our little ones!

Two Men And A Toddler...

On Saturday, Cade's mother was gone out-of-town, with some other ladies in the wedding party, to look at some bridesmaid's dresses for our youngest son, Brad's, wedding. Late in the afternoon, my son, Brett, picked Cade up from his aunt's house since he'd been there most of the day.

Since both of my sons were alone for the evening, while their ladies were still shopping, they decided to take Cade and go to Wal-mart and Lowes together! It's a 30 minute drive to get there. I was surprised, but very pleased to hear that my guys attempted this because it was a "milestone" for both of them! To my knowledge, neither of them has ever taken a toddler shopping--without a woman around!

I laughed at son Brad's "play-by-play" account of their experience, but it sounded like everything went along fine, and I think Brad was amused... Cade is now in his "terrible twos", which means he's moody and tempermental sometimes. I think both fellows dealt with Cade's "likes" and "dislikes" pretty well! (one minute he likes something, the next he doesn't)

Congratulations, to both of my sons. I'm very proud of them for taking a toddler shopping--and succeeding in actually making a purchase! In my opinion, that speaks well for both of them!

House Clothes...

My daughter came over yesterday and told me that she had a story for this blog. It seems that Maddie has been "at it" again.

Yesterday morning was a school day for Madison. She only attends "Wee Ones" on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Normally, Brandy takes Madison to school, runs errands in town for three hours, then swings back by to pick her up.

Yesterday Brandy decided to just go back home and do some housework, so she put on a t-shirt and sweatpants, instead of the usual jeans and top. When Madison saw what Brandy had put on, she quickly said "Mama, those clothes aren't appropriate to wear to school!" Those are your "at home" clothes."

How funny that Madison noticed what her mama was wearing! In the past, we've even seen some mothers still wearing their pajamas while they drop off their kids at school! Apparently, their children aren't very observant--or maybe they just aren't as opinionated as Maddie!

Chastised by a 4-year-old...We got a good laugh from that one! By the way...Brandy has a t-shirt that says the same thing as the one at the top of this post!

Back To School...And Other Things

Madison was finally able to go back to school today--after being absent all of last week. She was excited and ready to go. The bad thing was--her mama didn't realize it was "Pooh" day, so Madison didn't get to take one of her "Pooh" toys to share! She has lots of "Pooh" toys, and she was disappointed.

Madison also gets to go back to dance class this afternoon. She gets to take a stuffed toy to dance today, so that made her feel better. She said she was planning to take her mermaid. Hmmm...a dancing mermaid?

Yesterday, Madison came over for a while to watch a movie on Netflix. She thinks watching Netflix is a big deal these days. We watched a Bugs Bunny movie--made up of cartoons that I used to watch with my children when they were small. I still find Bugs Bunny entertaining.

After the movie, Madison asked to see inside my mouth, for some reason. I asked her if she saw all of my fillings. Then I explained to her that I didn't brush my teeth when I was little, and that's why I have these cavities(fillings).

Madison promptly went home and tattled to her mom that "MiMi didn't brush her teeth when she was little--and she has cavities!" Perhaps Madison will remember MiMi's giant fillings next time she's not in the mood to brush!
