Father and Son, Eight Months and a Lot of Changes...

Recently, my husband and I asked both of our married children and their families to all "chip in" and rent a condo with us at the beach. We've been on many trips with our daughter and her family, but had never taken a trip with our son and his family. We thought it would be nice to have a weekend with both of the families together--and it was.

When you live close together like we all do, you tend to have short visits. We all live on the same farm, and are within walking distance of each other. Brett has never been one to like to go on trips or spend a lot of time doing family-type things, so I was thrilled when he agreed to go. When you spend the whole weekend together, you get to see things that you wouldn't otherwise see.

I got to see a little more of the "fatherly" side of my oldest son. I saw him feeding Cade, and my heart swelled with pride. It was almost like, at that moment I realized that Brett was a daddy! I saw Brett put Cade on the little galloping horse outside of a store, and hold him while he took his first ride. I saw Brett play with Cade in the pool at the condo, and I saw him carry Cade around places, and just spend father/son time with him. It was wonderful to witness those things.

My husband was a wonderful father to our children--he was never too tired or busy to do what they asked of him--and still isn't! I hope Brett will be at least half of the father that Ed is. I hope he'll remember that sometimes it's those little things that mean the most, and most of all I hope that he will enjoy and cherish each day with his son, because children grow up so fast...he'll blink and one day Cade will be a dad himself !

Look Out Folks, Caden is Learning to Drive!!!!

I have an older version of this toy at my house that I bought at a thrift store. One day I showed Caden my little driver dashboard and he really seemed to like it. He enjoyed pushing all of the buttons and listening to the noise. He tried out every button on it!

Recently, on a shopping trip to K-mart I found a new version of the same toy. This one has a lot more "bells and whistles" than mine does. I couldn't help myself, I bought it for Caden. I waited until his next visit to give him the toy. When I FINALLY got it out of the box, he loved it! He pressed every button on there and even learned how to turn the wheel and blow the horn! When he presses the horn, it blows and a voice says, "Get out of the way!" Nothing like teaching road rage to babies!!! It also has a little shifter handle that makes sounds a car taking off at full speed when pushed up. Pulling the handle the other way makes sounds like tires squealing from hitting the breaks, and says "urrrrtttt, we're here!!!" Too funny.....

Anyway, I sent the toy home with Caden. I hope he is enjoying playing with it. The other night my husband, Ed, went to Caden's house for a few minutes. I asked him if Caden was playing with his dashboard. He told me that he saw there it on the floor, but it was turned off---then he said, "but I was sure to turn it on for him before I left." I guess Cade's mama and daddy got tired of "hearing" him learn how to drive....gotta' love it!
Today is the last day to scroll down and suggest a caption for my "Give This Photo a Caption Contest....winner will be announced tomorrow!

Maddie Climbs Into the Hamburger....

Now hear this! Check it out! Maddie finally climbed into the hamburger at McDonalds! For months, we've been going to different McDonalds and she's never attempted to climb much of anything.

She's an only child and doesn't have any other children that she plays with on a regular basis. I think because of this, she's just now figuring out what to do. She's also a bit slow-moving and clumsy(her mama says she's like her daddy) so physical activity doesn't come easy for her. Her mother was the same way, so I guess she got it from both parents....

I guess she was feeling adventurous on this particular morning, because she scaled to the top of the hamburger all by herself. We were on our way to the beach and had stopped by McDonald''s for breakfast. When Madison climbed up that hamburger, we all got out our cameras. It was a Kodak moment, for sure!

The problem was... she wouldn't come back down. Her daddy had to climb up and get her out! That was no easy feat, because he's a big man! I had visions of him getting stuck in there...No worries, they both made it out safely! You could say that both of them had their morning "workout" that day...
***Time is running out!!! Better scroll down to the "Choose a Caption For This Photo" Contest and leave a suggestion. Winner gets a cool new bath toy for the kids! Thanks so much for stopping by....

Tuesday Blog Hop--Favorite Recipes

This is a really quick and easy recipe that my hubby brought home from work. It's one of his favorites.

QUICK AND EASY CHEESECAKE

l large graham cracker crust

1 8 ounce cream cheese (soften to room temp.)

1 8 oz. bowl of cool whip(thawed)

1/3 cup of powdered sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla

1 can of blueberry OR cherry pie filling

Mix the softened cream cheese, cool whip, powdered sugar and vanilla together with a mixer until well blended. Spread in graham cracker crust. Top with your choice of canned blueberry or cherry pie filling. Chill at least an hour and serve. Easy and delicious! It's also pretty!

This is a quick and easy casserole that is very good and children usually like it, too!

HAMBURGER CASSEROLE

1 1/2 lb. hamburger meat
8 to 12 oz. egg noodles
1 can cream of celery soup (if you don't like celery, substitute cream of chicken)
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 small onion, chopped
2 cups grated cheddar cheese

Brown hamburger and onion. Cook noodles and drain. Drain hamburger and onion. Mix soups. Put a layer of noodles, hamburger mixture, and cheese. Repeat layers until all is used. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

Both of these recipes are quick, easy and delicious. Hope you enjoy trying them.

Not Me, Monday....

*****I have a sister blog at http://www.edshunnybunny.wordpress.com/ Please visit me there!

Today I will call this post "Not Maddie, Monday....Madison is at the age where she is imitating everything that she sees and hears....It's a good thing when she says "please" and "thank you" or "yes sir" or "no m'am" but not so good when she says some other things that she hears....

Maddie did not call her mama a "hog" this week....needless to say, mama was not impressed...

Maddie did not call her MiMi "stupid" week before last...MiMi wasn't impressed....

Maddie did not tell her daddy to "shut up" this week....daddy wasn't impressed either....

I don't know where she's getting some of these words, but I sure wish she'd stop...sometimes people tell children to say things as a joke, but it's not so funny when the child gets in trouble as a result...sometimes people say things without thinking--myself included....but I can't take "credit" for any of the above phrases....Ah, the joys of raising children!

Now head on over to Mckmama's at http://www.mycharmingkids.net/ and see what's going on at the blog carnival over at her place. Before you leave, please scroll down and enter my "Leave a Caption" contest for a chance to win a cool new bath toy. It's located just below this post! Good luck and have a great Monday!
