He Got Into Trouble...She Cried

These two cousins have become pretty close lately. They really seem to enjoy their time spent together. Just this past weekend, an interesting incident happened while our family was visiting together.

The entire family had gathered at my house to eat supper and work on our plans for a family vacation. It was getting near the end of our evening together.

Both children played together, and Cade had actively explored every nook and cranny in my house. Eventually, Cade became fixated on an end table that has a pull-out shelf for drinks. He began pulling the shelf in and out, over and over--each time more forcefully than the time before. He was warned to stop... but he didn't.

At first, I walked over grabbed his hand, popped it, and told him "No". He went back to try it again...then Cade's daddy got up and swatted him on the bottom with the palm of his hand. That got Cade's attention!

That pop also got Madison's attention, too. She began to cry because Cade got a spanking! She actually cried more than he did! I don't ever recall seeing one child cry because the other one got into trouble... Children never cease to amaze me...

***Yes, I realize there are probably some people who will read this post and gasp! Yes, we do believe in giving a spanking when it's needed, and we make no apologies for it. It's worked for our families for generations-- and we have no delinquents, inmates, or mental patients among us to prove it.

That's My Boy!

Now...What do you suppose he is thinking?

One afternoon a week or so ago, I asked Cade's mama to drop him by for an hour or so on her way home from work. I hadn't visited with him in a few days, and was ready to spend some time with him.
Even though Cade and his mama had been at preschool all day, Cade was still clean and fresh looking--like always-- when he got to our house. Of course, that didn't last long!
Cade's first stop was the sandbox. He loves playing in the sand. He even took a bite of it the other day...he wasn't impressed with the taste at all. We laughed and gave him something to drink!
After checking out the sandbox for a bit, Cade noticed something new...
Madison had just gotten a new swimming pool the day before. It was half full of water...and you know how water is like a magnet for little boys.
Of course being the little boy that he is--Cade had to throw an object into the pool. The problem came when he decided to try to retrieve that object. As Cade leaned in toward the pool, the side began to collapse...and the water began to flow...then Cade got all wet--shoes and all!
I only had the little fellow for an hour and he managed to get wet and dirty...I had to take him home wearing only a diaper...Then I had to explain to his mother what happened to him...What can I say, except "That's my boy!"

Just Like In The Movies...

After having just over a year of getting used to the idea of having a cousin, Madison has fallen in love with Cade. She thoroughly enjoys playing with him now. Now that he's finally big enough to do some things, she likes to try to boss him around--or join in whatever fun he's having.

I'm not sure that I've mentioned it on this blog or not, but Maddie and Cade live just down a dirt road from each other. They can actually see each other's houses. In fact, our entire family lives on the same 30 acre family farm.

One afternoon last week Madison saw Cade in his backyard with his daddy, and she asked to go down and see them. Brandy and Madison walked down the road to get their mail(our mailboxes are by the road), and to see what the father and son duo were up to. Of course, Junior, Brandy's old white dog, decided to join them on their walk.

Brandy said that as she and Madison got close enough for Cade and his daddy to realize that she and Madison were coming down the road--Cade and Madison began to run toward each other on the road! She said it looked like a love scene out of a movie...The two of them running to meet each other...Then Cade ran right past Madison and put his head on Junior the dog! Too funny! I wish I'd seen that moment myself. Poor Madison--passed by for Junior the dog...Life just ain't fair sometimes...
It didn't seem to bother Madison, though. The two cousins went on to play and have a great time in Cade's yard. Just yesterday, Madison was asking to go back and play again...

I Think He's Under The Influence...

Let me begin by thanking Midday Escapades, One2Try, and HeartsMakeFamilies for hosting Friday Follow...

My name is Kathy, aka, MiMi... Welcome to my little blog about my two grandchildren, Madison Elizabeth, age 3 1/2, and Caden, age 17 months. The two are cousins, and belong to my two oldest children who happen to live very close to me. I usually take turns writing about the adventures of my "grands".

I hope you enjoy your visit here. If you will let me know that you were here, I'll return your visit. Thanks for hopping by...MiMi

Today is Cade's turn to be in the spotlight...

I am not sure that I've mentioned it in a while, but Caden's mama loves monkeys. His nursery is decorated in monkeys...He had at least one monkey-themed baby shower...He has numerous monkey toys...He has a monkey Easter basket...

He has a monkey "lovie" that he sleeps with, monkey blankets, and he has monkey shoes, monkey socks, and monkey clothes. I never knew there were so many things with monkeys on them...

Lately, Caden has been exhibiting new climbing tendencies...He climbs on chairs, he climbs on couches, he climbs on counters, he climbs up sliding boards--backwards...I even caught him trying to climb the book shelves the other day! My theory? I believe the boy is under the influence of all of those monkeys!

"You Don't Know..."

I look at this picture of granddaughter, Madison, and I can almost "see" the future...Telephone to ear, pink painted fingernails...and already very opinionated!

One morning this week, I think I also "heard" a little bit of the future...Madison was chattering to me about how she was going to go to spend the night with Nana (her other grandma). When I began asking Madison about it, her mother spoke up and said "No, she's not spending the night with Nana." Then I possibly "heard" a little bit of the future when Madison replied to her mother..."You don't know..."

If Maddie's not even four yet, and she already thinks she knows more than her mother...what does the future hold? Grab those reins of life and hold on Brandy...this may be a bumpy ride.

Our Little Helper...

One of the good things--or bad sometimes--in having Madison living next-door is ...we always have a helper! If she sees my hubby and me in the yard, she wants to be there, too.

She loves to help feed the dogs, rabbits, and fish. She's very careful and precise in dumping the food into the dogs bowls...so careful that the dogs get impatient sometimes!

Her newest way of helping is to water the flowers. She does good for about a minute--man, she'll blow the blossoms right off those flowers with a stream of water--then her mind begins to wander...She'll begin to hum...next she'll begin to water everything except the flowers. Her mom says Madison cannot multi-task! I guess her humming affects her aim!

It's okay, Madison, the entire yard can use a little watering...and your shoes needed rinsing, too...

Weekend Update...

It was a busy weekend in "our neck of the woods". Saturday was the 34th annual Glennville Sweet Onion Parade and Festival. The day begins with several "runs" being held, followed by the parade, followed by the festival. You gotta' love it when your town is famous for an onion!

I didn't attend any of the Onion Festival activities this year, but Caden was in the parade. I'd love to track down a photograph of the float that he rode on. His mama helps run a pre-school called "Little Rascals". Every year they have a float in the parade--and every year Caden gets to ride on it.

The photograph above is me, my daughter, Brandy, and her daughter, Madison-- all wearing our new Onion Festival T-shirts.
